I really enjoyed the first book in the Black Bead series, and this one was even better. I'm completely hooked now. Black Bead was an excellent intro to the world and the culture of Cheobawn and her Blackwind Pack, but Bhotta's Tears is the first glimpse of the wider world - no, *universe* - that surrounds her Highland home. Like Black Bead, it has plenty of action, but politics and intrigue begin to play a greater role. It soon becomes clear that Cheobawn still knows very little of what's really going on in her world, even though her skill at reading the ambient and communicating with other sentient beings (up to and including the world itself) is unsurpassed. The plot unfolds beautifully, the relationships are both moving and hurtful, and the characters are very real with strengths and flaws, depths and shallows, Once scene in particular between Cheobawn and Tam made my eyes a little leaky. Highly recommended, and now I'm diving right into The Spider Wars.Product details

A great sequel, the MC is now 7 year's old and adding in the Lowlands people made the tale even more interesting. When I finished it, I had to buy the next book immediately.
I read the first story of this series and knew I should buy the entire series. The books have exceeded my first impression well worth the money and the read.
I read this in one sitting, the day after finishing "Black Bead." I would put this author in a league with some of my favorite science fiction writers, like Ursula Le Guin or Orson Scott Card. Excellent writing, enthralling story. I am definitely a fan, and can't wait for the next book to come out
This was a wonderful children's/YA book. The author did a good job with character development and the plot was interesting. There was a good twist near the end. A great 5 star read.

Thrilling watching the main character develop and to be inside her head as her abilities grow exponentially. Every character and species and entity comes to life and the "entities" include nature and whole alien species connected to through her mind. I feel like I can actually understand the voice of nature and the instincts of animals because I'm so inside this character's experience.
I bought the first book in the series more or less on a whim. At first I thought the story seemed a little strange, but the more I read the more engrossed I became. Now I am hooked, and have just ordered the third book. This is a very interesting series of books that are unique among the science fiction books I've read. The more I read, the more interested I become in how the story will unfold. Kudos to the author for creating a story that pulled me in and kept my interest. I have high hopes for Spider Wars!
