Rayner Bourton, original Rocky Horror and all 'round nice guy, has released this wonderful new book with his memories of the early days of The Rocky Horror Show. It gives a brilliant insight from the first auditions though the original Theatre Upstairs production to the Kings Road shows.
For the true Rocky Horror fans, this book is a mine of information, with many descriptions of how the show evolved from the first drafts of Richard O'Brien's cult masterpiece to the polished article that opened on 19th June 1973. This book gives you insight into this magical period when none of these talented young actors had any clue that they were starting out on such an extraordinary journey. Crystal clear memories of those very early days have appeared obscured under a veil of glitter and fishnets. Until now.
Full of amusing anecdotes and endearing impressions of his fellow cast members, including Frankenfurter himself, Tim Curry, Rayner takes the reader on a fascinating journey. But there is more to this tale than Rocky. Rayner eloquently conveys his experience of city life during the 1970s - the people, parties, places and attitudes. This is definitely a must-have for Rocky Horror fans.

A fairly interesting read on the original production of the Rocky Horror Show. Told with an insider's eye and some wit, it's for fans of RHPS. My only quibbles are the misspellings and the awkward breaks for the paragraphs. Nice pictures and nicely told.Product details

The Rocky Horror Show As I Remember It (Audible Audio Edition) Rayner Bourton Create Digital Publishing Books Reviews
This book was absolutely fantastic! You get to kind of finally see what went on to create the biggest cult phenomenon in history, and from a perspective of the original rocky! I think it is definetly a book every die-hard rocky horror fan should read! I would rate it higher if there wasn't a 5 star limit.
With so little information about the original production of The Rocky Horror Show available, Bourton's book is a treat for any fan of The Rocky Horror Show. However, while his voice does perfectly illustrate his wonderful anecdotes, it feels as if there is no strong adhesive which holds together Bourton's wonderful adventure.
Grammatical and formatting errors abound, and it is clear that this book needs some heavy editing to fix its glaring problems. There is no spacing between chapters on the and no table of contents. The book also lacks the photos which are supposed to be included.
Interesting to get a cast perspective, and I learned a lot I didn't know about a show I really enjoy.
