“I grabbed this book because I’m an avid World War II buff. I try to read everything I can get my hands on. I knew that women were common in the Soviet and even the German armies but I honestly had no idea of the extent of their involvement. History books seem to gloss this all over. I was glad to see that the author included women from both sides of the battle lines. Regardless of what side they fought on, history needs to be written for everyone, not just the winner. I found the book easy to read and while it’s short, I liked the content. This was really an awesome book!” Nick A. – (Colorado, US)
“I wasn’t too sure about this book. I didn’t even realize that there was any part of World War II fought in Africa. It sounded a little farfetched but the facts are all there. I think that’s what gives this book a bit of an edge over other World War II books. Those books tend to focus solely on the European and Asian fronts. This was really a unique look into battles that I had never heard of before!” - Brooke C. (Oregon, USA)

This selection is a three volumn box set:The first Volumn relates soldier stories from the German-Soviet War, 1941-1945, best known as the Eastern Front. No other warfare, before or since has compared to the ferocity, destruction, and bloodshed of this front.By the time World War II had ended, the Soviet Union had lost an estimated 10 million soldiers. Another 5-7 million people through mass killing, 5-7 million more through famine and disease. This was fourteen percent of their population. In Leningrad/ St. Petersburg alone, almost more people died in 900 days (more than 1 million) than the United States has lost in every war it has ever fought - since 1776. In addition, the following were either partially or totally destroyed: over 1600 cities and towns. 70,000 villages and hamlets. 2500 churches. 30,000 factories of various sizes, 40,000 hospitals and clinics. 80,000 schools. 40,000 libraries. Every family in the USSR lost a loved one. The author stories from this war accurately reflects the kind of fighting the reader would expect at the Eastern Front.
The second volumn of the serries describes combat in the North African Theater or the Desert War 1940-1943. *Once you travel just a few miles from the coast of the Mediterranean Sea in North Africa, the temperature can sometimes reach 115ºF –or higher. For an individual sitting in the sun, performing no tasks at all, with adequate water to drink, the weather is brutal, its effects on soldiers in combat are beyond extreme. The author details the many environmental factors that have a significant impact on desert warfare, among which are: the vast size of the area contested was thousands of miles; providing adequate supplies of water, food, and material; maintaining logistical support over hundreds and even thousands of miles; blowing sands impact on men and machines; millions of flies that constantly harassed people and animals are just a sampling of elements that combined to challange the fighting men and women. The author's selection of soldier stories provide the reader with an abiding respect for the fighters from the US, Britian, and the British commenwealth, who adapted and overcame the environmental conditions and their motivated enimies to win the desert war in 1943.
The thrid volumn focused on women who perforned combat duties during WW 2. The author acknowledges the role played by millions of women all over the world working in war industries, in the place of men serving in their Nation's armed services. But this volumn's soldiers stories of women in combat. I found the story of an US Army nurse who was captured in the Phillipines in 1940, who heroically continued to provide life saving services, frequently at great personal risk to herself, to fellow POWs helld captive under brutal and horiffic Japanese prisoner camps in the Phillipines until rescued in the summer of 1944.
The historical accounts in this three volumn series represent a cross section of soldiers who were among the most highly decorated in the war, performing Incredible, almost unbelivabe, acts of bravery above and beyons the call of duty, and without concern for personal safety. Their stories are exceptoionally well written and exciting. They demonstrate the level of valor that occured throughout the entirety of and on every battle field of WW 2. The heroism exibbited is both inspiring and extraordinary. I fully agree with the author's statement that reading these accounts will"... deepened your understanding of the sacrifice that the men and women from the Allied nations made to ensure the world they lived in was free, and that we, their descendants might just have the chance to live in freedom as well." What is it that drives brave soldiers from the past and the present to put aside their personal interests, and many times their lives, in the defense of others. This is an exceptional historical work that reads like one of the best action novels availible today!!! I believe many readers will enjoy this excellent series of books and recommend them to anyone that enjoys good stories that just happens to be historically accurate!!!

World War 2 BOX SET #7 WW2 Soldier Stories Part 45 6 eBook Ryan Jenkins Reviews
This is a collection of soldier stories, which consists of 3 books. These books include tales of soldiers on the Soviet Front, the African Front, and women in the battlefield.
The first part introduces you to the Soviet involvement in World War 2, including information on the treatment of Soviet POWs and prisoners. It also explains how the Germans were preparing to invade Moscow.
The second part describes what was happening in Africa during WW2. This includes facts on fighting in Tunisia, Egypt, and Ethiopia.
The third part is about women soldiers and the combat situations they saw. For instance, there were many Soviet female soldiers, and also females in the American and German military.
This book would be great to check out if you want to read about what it was like as a soldier in World War 2.
I purchased this series for my dad, who never told me earlier what he thinks about WW II, though I know he is a silent follower of this greatest war book.
This volume is a good collection of memories of participants from all branches of the services involved in this difficult World War II action. Together Ryan portrays the complexities of the several battle stories where the soldiers were determined they would win. He also presents the most significant part of this war how the cross section of participants used indicates the difficulties of this multiple nation and multiple location action.
I also consider this series is a guide for understanding the enormity of the impact of the war, where there were more than 16 million Americans who served in World War II. Many of the heroes were not recognized in their lifetimes and some ended in lessened circumstances or torture and death because of their efforts to save lives during the agonies of war. After reading this part one thing just cleared to me that there was is no place for the weak and it had taken its toll on everyone involved. The participants are never the same, nor is the land that is left devastated by the brutality imposed upon its residents. I enjoyed my reading about the exceptional bravery of the heroes of WW II as well as the diplomatic games of the different participating country.
I became really happy while my dad told me that he wanted to read more books of this series on World War II and discussed a little bit about his opinion about the war.
So, this is the 3rd set I have read out of these Soldier Stories. I know the biggest reason I enjoy reading them is because I am a Veteran myself. I wish I had access to these stories when I was in the military or before joining because I think this is one of the most realistic ways to get some sort of visual of what's going on in a Soldier's mind and day to day life while they are in some of the scariest situations that some of them will ever face. I think it also could give hope to someone going through similar situations to see how these brave men and women made it through. I learned several things from reading this. In part 4 it mentions the war between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union being the most costly in terms of lives lost and damage caused, it makes me think of all the soldiers that have sacrificed their lives in hopes that their people can have a better future. Part 5 talks of lethal weather conditions soldiers had to face in the North African Desert and the huge quantity of flies they had to protect food and wounds from. Situations like this show the unbearable obstacles soldiers are facing on top of the War they are fighting. These stories add to my appreciation of the people that continue to protect us despite all the sacrifices they have to make to be able to do it.
